Recovering of mine tailings

The CTMP shows an interest in the beneficiation and the recycling of mine tailings in an effort to minimize their environmental impact. Therefore, the Centre develops technologies to enrich, valorize or recycle mineral waste from industrial activities.

Hereafter are some examples of projects of mine tailing beneficiation.

Concentration of Cr, Ni from mineral waste

The objective of this project was to recover Nickel and Chrome metal from serpentine waste in the Thetford Mines area. The Centre developed a chemical free flowsheet to extract the oxides and the sulfides, thus minimizing the environmental impact.

Seeding of tailing using sewage sludge

The objective of the project was to determine the conditions for a resilient re-vegetation of the asbestos dry tailing dumps using sewage sludge from the Haute-Bécancour filtration plant.
